“Sugar is Toxic”

Time Magazine

Are you Addicted to Sugar?

Do you crave sweets, bread, pasta and sauce-laden food? Do you experience lethargy and mood swings? Does your weight see-saw unmanageably?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you may be addicted to sugar and be putting your health at risk. The world’s obesity problems clearly point to an overload of sugar in our diets.

Do you:

  1. Eat starchy or sweet, fatty foods until you feel uncomfortably full?
  2. Feel hungry after eating a full meal?
  3. Eat large quantities of sweets?
  4. Feel self-loathing, disgust or depressed about your eating?
  5. Turn to carbohydrate-rich foods or sugar when feeling down or upset?
  6. Plan to eat a small portion but end up binge eating?
  7. Find it difficult to cut back on starchy, sweet, fatty foods?
  8. Have difficulty stopping once you start eating starches, snack foods, sweets?
  9. Feel your eating habits are impacting negatively on your social, work or physical abilities?
  10. Find you cannot stick to healthy eating resolutions?
  11. Feel you need to (have to) have something sweet after lunch or dinner?
  12. Eat sweets secretly and hide the wrappers because you don’t want anyone to know?
  13. Eat one piece of cake and then come back for more and more?
  14. Feel as if you have a foggy head or your thoughts are unclear

If you can say yes to any of these then you are feeling the toxic and addictive nature of sugar.

We can improve your mood, elevate your energy, lower body fat and make you feel amazing in just thirty days. This is science.

Sugar Is the #1 Cause of Preventable Diseases in Today’s Culture

Diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, certain cancers and depression

Karen Thomson“I spent many years trapped in the self-imposed jail known as addiction. I had little hope or faith that I would every reach my goals or live a life of my dreams. I felt fat, ugly and worthless and reinforced this daily by the way I treated myself.

I binged and gorged on sugar and refined carbs and junk. I tried to push my thoughts and feelings away with food.

My sugar and carb addiction kept me stuck in old ways of being. I looked to external substances to soothe an internal problem. There was a hole in me so big that nothing could fill.

It wasn’t until I addressed the core of my addiction that my life started changing. I want people to feel the same amount of freedom in their recovery from sugar addiction as I do every single way.

Today I am proud to say: My name is Karen. I am a sugar addict. And today I know that I am worth it.

I want to encourage each one of you to start fighting for your health and wellbeing. Change starts with each one of us.”

– Karen Thomson

Emily Maguire“Being conventionally trained at university I thought I knew it all when it came to nutrition. I believed in the conventional mantra that it was fat that was bad for you, the only way to lose weight was to count calories and having sugar in moderation was just part of a “balanced” diet.

Now I know though, that this type of nutrition practice is exactly what is not only making us sicker as a nation, but it’s what’s preventing us from fixing obesity and helping to treat modern day diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes.

It’s my mission and passion to help re educate as many people on exactly how we should be eating for optimal health and weight. Instead of fighting the fads, we need to fight the miss information out there on what an optimal diet is.”

– Emily Maguire

Thomas Edison

“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

What Graduates Are Saying

Shelley
The bond (even though we all lived in different parts of the world) was incredible during the 8 weeks between all of us. I lost 12 pounds in just over 8 weeks on the program, which was not a huge amount of weight, but that priority for me had changed, I needed to heal me first before I could really focus on anything else. The emotional baggage that I lost cannot be measured. So the main benefit has to be that I have admitted, forgiven and learned to really love the person that I am and pupa to butterfly is emerging week after week. For this I am eternally grateful.

Close on 80 days without sugar and carbs. I do not have hormonal mood swings, I have no craving (other than overeating), I only eat twice a day mostly, as I am NOT HUNGRY – learning to listen to my body in every way. Feeling so empowered!

This method I found to be ingenious as I would really look inside of myself, then weed out the bad and negative emotion, find the positive and then use that energy to drive me emotionally on a daily basis. There is of course the forum, this is an extremely powerful and wonderful way in which to connect with people that are in such similar circumstance to you.

Karen’s grandfather, Dr. Christiaan Barnard, performed the first successful human heart transplant. “It was said of Professor Barnard that his great desire was to help his patients improve their quality of life. Towards the end of his life he wrote that his personal surgical skills had helped hundreds of individual patients, but if he had devoted himself to prevention of disease, he might have helped hundreds of millions more.

“Karen is is reaching out to those missions her grandfather did not reach.”

“By bringing the topic into the open and exposing her personal journey, Karen Thomson is the pioneer and leader, driving us on to its dramatic end.

“Karens’ grandfather would be just so proud.”

– Professor Tim Noakes

Aseem Malhotra

“… Karen is not just a health activist. She has utilized her passion and strong moral compass to address the single most important dietary factor that is contributing to a worldwide epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes: sugar!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose weight?
Whilst we understand that one of (or even your main) goal is looking at weight loss, the sugar free reset programme can offer benefits over and above that of weight loss. Things such as improvement in skin, vitality, mental well being and overall general health. That being said, we know that for the majority of people eating this way weight loss is definitely a commonly reported benefit that happens when quitting sugar. We try and encourage people not to just fixate on the scales either though as they aren’t really a great representation of fat loss. Use the scales as a marker but look at your inch measurement, the way your clothes are feeling etc. we have even had people reporting that they have gone down a shoe size! Weight or even fat loss can happen from all areas of the body.
How long will it take before I lose weight?
This one is hard to give a blanket answer for as everyone is uniquely unique in the way in which their body responds. Within the first week to two weeks though we do see most people noticing movement in their clothes or on the scales and more importantly on how their clothing fits. If you are someone that suffers from certain medical conditions, particularly that of autoimmune disorders such as underactive thyroid, you may find that your weight loss is a little slower. However, no two bodies are the same and you should never compare your rate of weight loss to anyone else’s and we are here to help wherever we can.
Can my family join in?
Absolutely! The more the merrier. Make this a family affair and all join in the fun. In our opinion, sugar free should be embraced by the whole family especially when it comes to children! We know though that it may be a little more challenging to get everyone on board so we have given some guidance, hints and tips of how you can include the whole family in on this.
Is it safe to give up sugar?
Not only is it safe to give up sugar it is actually way better for your body not to have it. In nutrition school we are taught a particular saying associated with sugar, which is- sugar has empty calories. What this means is that it offers absolutely nothing to the body in the way of nutrients, zero, ziltch, nadda. The body has absolutely no need for it and what the science is now showing us is that in fact sugar could be one of the major causes behind most of our modern day diseases today.
I’ve tried every program what makes this different?
The sugar free program was designed to address the different aspects that make us human. We look at the underlying emotional ties we have to sugar, how we use it to soothe our feelings and lift our spirits. The program will help you address these issues and offer solutions and support. We will be with you every step of the way. This program is designed to consider both the mind and the body. Too many programs out there focus simply on what to eat. They do not address the underlying reasons as to why we eat. In this reset, we apply a dietary strategy that allows your body to naturally level out its hormones and appetite regulating systems. This simply means that we address factors such as cravings and hunger, two things that can often derail you from your new way of eating. By taking care of the physiological way of eating, it then allows us the time and space to deal with the psychological aspects of eating.
Can I join if I am a vegetarian?
Yes, you can still eat a sugar free diet whilst being vegetarian.
Can I still drink alcohol?
Yes, you can still drink alcohol as long as they are low sugar options of which we will guide you on.
Do I have to give up chocolate?
The only chocolate we ask you to give up is the ones filled with sugars. You can however enjoy luxurious dark chocolate either on it’s own or with other combinations that we will share with you.
I suffer from anxiety and depression, will this help?
Please consult your health care practitioner before starting any new program or lifestyle plan. It is often noted that adopting a sugar free lifestyle will help stabilise blood sugar and moods which could positive impact on your moods.
What other benefits are there to quitting sugar?
We’ve had past participants experience many amazing benefits such as weight loss, improved mood, better sleep, better skin, stronger nails and hair, less cellulite but the most amazing benefits are the changes that happen within when people start believing in themselves…. To us those changes are the most beautiful.
