The Cape Times editorial page 23 February 2015.

We congratulate Karen Thomson for organising and hosting the Old Mutual South Africa Health Convention, which focused on the low carb, high fat diet that’s taken the country by storm. It is not a question of whether one agrees with it or not, but the fact is that 17 speakers from all over the world world came to the event free of charge provide more information and clarity.
The fact that 620 members of the public attended the final day yesterday speaks to the interest in what is commonly called the Banting diet.
This newspaper has given much coverage to Prof Tim Noakes’s advocacy of the diet, as well as published reams of responses and his comment on them. Without information we cannot make informed choices – a point made by several speakers.
Noakes said we need to take our health into our hands and stop letting ourself be dictated to by the medical profession
